Answering “yes” to these questions might indicate you’re well-suited for a career as a medical administration assistant.

Students entering this area of study have three separate options from which to choose to allow maximum utilization of this degree. In all three areas, students will develop advanced-level office, communication and microcomputer skills, as well as an understanding of the medical terminology and office procedures involved in working in a medical office, health center or hospital.

Clinical Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator Option
Students enrolling in the clinical option develop examining room procedures and clinical laboratory skills. Graduates of this program are encouraged to sit for the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certified Medical Assistant examination and/or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Medical Assisting examination.

Career possibilities in this field include unit coordinator, unit secretary, ward clerk, floor administrator, clinical assistant and medical secretary.

Health Insurance/Billing Specialist Option
The health insurance/billing specialist option offers students the opportunity to develop principles of accounting skills and a more in-depth understanding of medical recordkeeping, billing and coding, and insurance forms preparation.

Graduates of this program are encouraged to sit for the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certified Medical Office Assistant examination and/or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Certified Medical Office Assistant examination. Careers including medical records clerk, medical billing clerk and medical office secretary are available to graduates of this degree program.

Medical Transcriptionist Option
The medical transcriptionist option offers students the opportunity to develop advanced-level medical transcription skills. Graduates of this program are encouraged to sit for the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Administrative Health Assistant examination and/or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Certified Medical Office Assistant examination.

Graduates can qualify for a career as a medical transcriptionist or other medical office positions that require advanced-level office skills.
